Since 1984 the band has been a constant participant of Debrecen’s musical life. Since 1985 they have uninterruptedly hosted the Debrecen Jazz Days. A number of high-enriched Debrecen musicians have been playing in the band as members. There are many memorable concerts connected to its name, sometimes with famous guest artists (Champion Jack Dupree, Dr. Michael White, Eric Alexander, Lee „Plink” Floyd, Steamboat Willie, David Jellema, etc). The band is still proud of having taken part with success in the European Broadcasting Union’s Tonder Festival (Denmark) in 1987, two years after its foundation and successfully represented Hungary as early as 1989 at the biggest feast of European Oldtimers music in Dresden. In the past decades, Debrecen Dixieland have had great success in almost all the countries of Europe and twice in the original home of jazz in the United States (including New Orleans), as well. In addition, of course, the band is a regular guest at various domestic dixieland and jazz festivals, the Hungarian Radio and radios of numerous countries in Europe broadcast their programs. The band plays traditional jazz evergreens and the compositions of its members. Besides,it makes „excursions” to various other styles.
The activity of the band was honored by Hajdú-Bihar County with a gold medal, by the city of Debrecen with the city’s Csokonai Prize and „For the Culture of Debrecen” award.
